Along my half hour drive back from Philadelphia to my hometown I came upon a realization. I hate commercials. Now this might not strike you as new, but then again whoever changed the wheel from rock to rubber was an absolute genius. I envisioned the future of video games along my trip and I liked what I saw. People seem to be indifferent to billboards however. The idea that I came up with was to incorporate advertisements into video games. Some of you may be thinking something along the lines of "keep ads out of video games; is nothing sacred anymore?". But then consider this. What if you created a profile that you used every time you played video games? This already happens. Now, what if your profile included things you were interested in so that ads could be tailored to your interests? This can be easily done. Finally, what if placing ads in video games made playing online free for all who allowed ads to be presented to them? Sounds like a good deal to me. Instead of gamers paying a yearly fee(xbox charges $50 a year), the companies would pay the game developers to use their billboards in the games that you play. This would not interfere with your gaming experience whatsoever. How you ask? The advertisements would only be placed on loading screens and objects in the game where advertisements would be suitable(a player's shoes in a basketball game for example). Since video gaming has merged with the internet, updates could be made instantly to these games to keep the ads, not to mention the games, up to date. Wouldn't you like to know about new products that you might have an interest in?
I did a little research on advertising in video games and came up with a forum to be held in New York City on April 12th. Here's the link. http://www.advertisingingames.com/
